Even if you consider yourself quite the DIY person, it is still not a good idea to start changing locks and buying locksmith tools and locksmith supplies without consulting with a true professional locksmith who understands, lives and breathes every type of lock.
Locksmith tools look very exciting in a shop, for a DIY person it can be like a child seeing a row of candy. But don't jump in unless you really know all about the job of a locksmith and understand the differences between a Zamac lock and lever handle locks, a turner lock and a wafer tumbler lock. Each type of lock requires different type of installation tools. A tubular pin tumbler lock needs very different tools from a 5 lever lock and a magnetic keyed lock is a totally different in terms of installation from a Quantum lock. You might think you understand it all, but there are so many different types of tools and supplies that a locksmith uses that often you may end up buying or renting the wrong equipment.
The job of a locksmith is complex and skilled, it is not something that anyone can do, and the same applies for his tools. Not everyone can use and understand the tools of a locksmith and especially as there are so many different types of locks available today from a basic double locking brass padlock to a Cruciform lock, from a disc tumbler lock to a RH Auto lock with key. Knowing which tools are suitable for which locks is often best left to the professionals who really know what they are doing and then you don't end up wasting unnecessary money on locksmith supplies that are not suitable for the job and cannot be used.
